Kate and Donovan, both working in the army in the winter of 1917, are brought together by an undercover mission. A gathering on Blackwater Island, serving a different purpose for each guest, soon turns dangerous, and it's up to Donovan and Kate to uncover the secrets the guests hide.

The story reads very well, the dialogue is well-written, and the chemistry between the two main characters is undeniable from the start. This is a book that can be read within the course of a day without getting boring or repetitive, however, there is a certain predictability in terms of drama, and having no down time from events, there is little room for character development. The main characters do a great job of uncovering the flaws of others, but they themselves remain a little too competent without any real depth.
