Set during the first world war the Highmounts invite a group of guests to their stately home on an island. Their intention is to have a seance and contact their two sons who are missing, presumed dead, in action. Three members of the party have been sent there by the secret service to keep an eye on things, with one, Donovan, masquerading as a servant. The stormy weather prevents anyone leaving and there are more than a few things that go bump in the night during the seance. Lives are at risk, but who is telling the truth and who has something to hide? A great read.
