I am disappointed that I did not enjoy this book more

The cover of this book is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, I felt the story did not quite match.

Lord Highmount has arranged for a spiritualist gathering at Blackwater Abbey in an attempt to contact his two sons lost to the conflict of the First World War. The house is undoubtedly haunted, as Kate Cartwright can attest, however there are suspicions that the two spiritualists conducting the seance may not be all that they appear. Trapped on the Island by a vicious storm, it soon becomes clear that their lives may be in danger. How many will leave the island alive?

I did enjoy this story but found it a little hard to keep track off. This is perhaps more my own failing as I tend to have trouble remembering historical names, making it tricky to keep track of characters and story development! However, I was expecting more of a ghost story than I was given, which was more of a historical murder mystery that happened to contain a ghost or two. The book was certainly well written, and the author painted vivid pictures which allowed me to be transported into the world as I read.

Overall, I am disappointed that I did not enjoy this book more as I feel it certainly deserved it, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. If you enjoy reading historical mysteries with a supernatural theme then you will likely get a few good hours out of a House of Ghosts.
