At first glance the imagery of the book's cover caught my eye and then the title. I do like a dark mystery and to top it off it also has a supernatural escence to it.
Kate and Donovan both have really strong characters. I liked the storyline, even though it is set in a historical period, as this is not normally of an interest to me. With the help of a mirror passed down through generations, Kate can often see the past, future (a great help to see where her relationship is going) and sometimes ghosts.
At the country retreat, which is set on a remote island, there are a series of murders and although it is a little predictable, it is still extremely enjoyable. That said this book isn't for everyone and it can be a little slow at times.
