This book was cleverly written and had a number of indepth and likely characters. It was set around WW1 and was an interesting insight into life around this time period. I particularly enjoyed the ever so slight romantic side story between Donovan and Kate. I enjoyed the pace of the storyline too, it was intriguing and thought provoking at the same time. It was a good mix of mystery and detective work. The two main characters, Donovan and Kate were extremely likable. The scene that was set was also very well laid out as I could imagine the harsh seas and the cold winter weather on a windy, bleak island. I also enjoyed the way the chapters were split into the different characters points of view, it gave the story depth to see it from different perspectives. I didn't find it overly creepy or scary, even with the presents of ghosts and other worldly things. All in all, I found this a good read. If you like detective stories... A kind of "whodunnit" meets James Bond, this one's for you!
