W.C. Ryan's book "A house of ghosts" tells the story of Donavan and Cartwright as they try to solve who is behind the mysterious attacks on a group of people who have met to hold a séance or two. There are twists and turns sat every corner and, with the group being isolated on an island due to a storm, a claustrophobic setting makes for a very atmospheric and intriguing read.

I loved reading from the multiple perspectives, and each character had their own distinctive voice, meaning that it was easy to keep track of what was going on. The supernatural element took a bit of a back seat throughout the story, with it being used as a means to create an unsettling backdrop to the main action which it does incredibly well. The two main characters were developed well and had their own personalities. The other secondary characters were interesting to read about as well, with Orlav and Freda being absolutely creepy and wonderful.

The story held my attention throughout, and I got through it in just over 2 days. I was hooked. In terms of storyline, I really enjoyed it however, the solution was relatively predictable and, although it all gets resolved, I was hoping for a more substantial twist, but it didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the book.

All in all, an atmospheric read that I really enjoyed. Many thanks to readersfirst and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
