As is most often the case, Ryan taps into the fact that the most haunting ghosts are not the dead, but those of our own creation. The mystery behind the central characters and the intricate web woven throughout the narrative enthralled me so much, I finished the book in under a day.
Kate and Donovan made for believably complicated protagonists and their interactions give me hope for the beginning of a wonderful partnership in future novels. My only gripe is I found certain characters and their motivations underdeveloped, most notably Feda and Rolleston.
The supernatural elements were delightfully subtle and serve as a separate mystery that lingers long after the final page.
