If ever a tale was crafted for a dark and stormy night, surely this is it. The composed thrills in "The House of Ghosts" give it a classic edge, while its artfully mischievous duo delivers boundless charisma.

Timeless and atmospheric, the perilously inaccessible Blackwater Abbey and the gathering of souls within its walls provoke all manner of activity – some inconceivable, others contemptible.

The invited ensemble comprises of personalities worthy of a place at any séance. They include: the grieving hosts, the titled, the wily and the vengeful, ‘professional’ clairvoyants (including a covert one), and a roguish Irish secret service agent, not forgetting one or two other ‘uninvited’ guests.

By the end of the book I’d been lashed by a wintery sea, entangled in war conspiracies, and strangely comforted by the dearly departed. One thing’s for sure, I applaud "The House of Ghosts" and all its occupants!

Although this one concluded very nicely I could see there being room for a cracking follow-up in the future, as Donovan and Kate make an extraordinary team and are effortlessly likeable.
