I’ve been introduced to Goodwin by Readers First and now I’ve finished the third book in her days of the week series, I can say I’m a firm fan.

Grace is brought up in a very unhappy household. Her kind and gentle mother Madeline was rushed into a marriage with her well respected judge father. Her father, Judge Kettle is a brute with some very unsavoury pastimes.

To escape her unhappy life, she becomes very devoutly religious and begins her training to become a nun near her aunt Gertie’s in Wales.
It’s during her training that she meets Father Luke. Her feelings towards him are not exactly pure, nor his towards Grace. After a passion filled night, Grace is left in an unfortunate position...

Goodwin is a bit of a master at writing in such a way that you become completely immersed in her world. Her descriptions of both places and people are amazing. Not overly described, yet you could almost feel the cold winters in Wales and the heat in summer.

Goodwin is also very good at developing secondary characters. I really liked aunt Gertie, and became invested in many of the people surrounding Grace.
She also knows how to write some bad un’s! I vehemently disliked Grace’s father and her husband Dylan. Grace is really tested in every aspect of her life, and yet plods on regardless. My heart broke for her in her unhappy and abusive marriage. I don’t want to give too much detail, as this is a book to be enjoyed and absorbed.

I was also outraged at Father Luke’s treatment of her and felt he got off far too easily. Instead of being a man and standing by her after their mutual confessions of love, he left Grace immediately (without the care to say goodbye) and as a consequence she was left in a delicate condition and unmarried. A big deal back in the day. Grace endured years of hardship because Luke couldn’t grow a pair and admit his feelings. He thought of himself only. I don’t think I could have been so forgiving.

A 4 star read for me.

I would like to thank Readers First for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
