This is the third book in Rosie Goodwin's Days of the Week series, although they are stand alone stories, and they are definitely growing on me. I didn't think that I was ready to read these ' Cooksonesque' turn of the century family sagas about love and cruelty and deprivation just yet but it turns out that I am. I really enjoy their heart warming predictability.
Grace is a wonderful character, honest and kind, hard working and selfless. Her father is a cruel and abusive and she spends a lot of her time with her mother's relatives in North Wales. After a serious illness and the deaths of both her best friend in Wales and her invalid mother, she decides she wishes to dedicate her life to God and become a nun.
However, her life as a postulant is derailed when she meets attractive father Luke. Further setbacks follow when her father dies.
At times, this book reminds the reader of The Thornbirds and The Sound of Music but they were both great stories too!
