I really wanted to like this book. I thought the premise was very interesting and I’ve been enjoying reading thrillers lately so I hoped to enjoy this one too. Sadly, I just couldn’t connect with the book. I liked the themes behind it and the way it explored Nazi Germany, it was obvious the author had researched the topic well and looked at aspects most people wouldn’t know about, and I liked that the events had been inspired by real people who tried to spread knowledge of concentration camps. But to me the book felt slow-paced and I struggled with it in places, particularly at the start of the book before Harriet and the major plot line of the book were revealed. I didn’t like the characters very much - I felt they were very stereotypical with the only difference being that Tom and Harriet didn’t get together. There were way to many references to how attractive Harriet was and hints at a relationship which just felt very cliché, and the dream particularly made me cringe. Overall, I think the events behind the book are interesting and it drew attention to important topics, but it felt flat to me and I disliked the characters so I wasn’t rooting for anyone.
