As I was a child in the dark days of World War 2, and remember well the nightly bombing raids and the limited diet imposed on us by the rationing system, this story really appeals to me. Many is the time I stood in line with my mother in the queue at the grocers, our ration books at the ready, waiting to see what we could get to feed the family - what a terrible time that was!
I always enjoy books from a period or place I can relate to and this book meets both criteria. I’m sure I will get lost in memories as the story unfolds.
