Although this is not my usual type of book I was drawn into the comfortable style and ease it was written. It's time to sit curled up with this book now the darker nights are approaching and be drawn into the busy life of Ida Brogan. Ida is a likeable, dependable and resorceful woman, battling her way through wartime Britain in the 1940's. It's obvious that Ida is devoted to her husband Jerimiah, who is the love of her life and their five children. Ida's youngest is now ten years old and her older children now have babies of their own.

Family is everything to Ida so imagine how the solid foundations of her life are shattered when she accidently bumps into Ellen her old friend from years ago. Ida is horrified when Ellen's ten year old son turns round to face her as it's like looking directly at her own youngest son. In fact they could even be twins.!!!!! The resembalance to Jerimiah is remarkable. There is no doubt in Ida's mind this is his son. Ellen begins to apologise as Ida flees home.

Jerimiah returns home that evening where a distraught Ida confronts him about Ellen and his apparent son-This is where the first impression finishes, leaving you wanting to discover what happens now??? How will Ida survive this trauma???Will Ida ever be able to forgive Jerimiah's betrayal???

It appears this book is a good hearty read ideal for the forthcoming winter. It's time to settle down and read the real struggle of a woman in wartime Britain with her own battle to face.
