Set in the 1940s during the blitz, when there are nightly bombings. Food is rationed and many families spend a lot of evenings in air raid shelters.this is a story about 1 families lives during this time. The book gives a good representation of what it must have been like for families during this time. The book follows the life of a woman married to a gypsy, they have 3 daughters 2 sons as well as grandchildren. The style of writing made it easy to read and follow. It has a good plot where there are lots of surprises, some sad times as well as quite a few laughs. I found this an easy book to read. Not edge of your seat stuff but interesting all the same. From reading this book I can appreciate how much easier it is to live in society these days
