My grandmother and I read this book by listening to it on audiobook while cooking one day. She was so enamoured of it that we had to listen every time we cooked and cleaned for the next month.
This was a very sweet but sad story. Reading historical fiction like this always allows for some sadness, but we found it so wonderfully positive in the end. This reminded us of the television program and book series “Call The Midwife”!
The author has a great voice and creates very interesting characters. Some of the kid characters were a bit over dramatic, but we really enjoyed the adult characters. Our main character was easily the funniest and most interesting one.
