I really enjoyed reading A Ration Book Christmas last year and was excited when this book was coming out, and I have not been disappointed by it.
The book again centres on the Brigan family, but this time the central character is Ida, Jo's mum. When an old friend returns to the neighbourhood and tells Ida that her husband is the father of her child, Ida's world is rocked to its core.
When she later discovers that her friend is dying, and wants Ida and her husband to take in the care of the child, it really tests their relationship.
All the characters are nicely developed, and the plot moves along at a good pace. There are also some really nice period details which add to the overall enjoyment. A great read.
