When it comes to historical novels I’m very much either hit or miss but by the end of the first chapter I was hooked when a terrible secret is revealed to Ida that rocks her lovely little family life during war time.
The writing style is effortless and quickly transports you back to one of the most terrible events to strike the world over and discusses things like rationing and the new jobs people had as most men were at war.
The characters in particular Ida and even Jeremiah for the first chapter are easily likeable earlier on which means you feel for the characters and their situations.
This is a book I would definitely buy as the story gripped me early on and there is so much to find out!
