A Ration Book Childhood is a historical family saga written by Jean Fullerton.
The story focuses on Ida Brogan and her family living in London during the Blitz in 1941. For the past two years rationing has made feeding her family a difficult task and with her eldest son away fighting overseas and the constant threat of nightly air raids Ida's family are more precious to her than ever before. The arrival of an old friend threatens everything she holds dear and everything she thought she knew about hose she holds dearest.

I found A Ration Book Childhood to be a sensitive and authentic insight into the hardships and difficulties faced by many during WWII in London. Jean Fullerton has created a wonderful range of complex and engaging characters that I found believable and whom I was glad to spend my time with. The dialogue was superbly written and brought the characters to life, especially Queenie who had me laugh out loud on several occasions.

This is the first book that I have read by this author but it will not be my last. This is definitely not my usual genre at all so was unsure of what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

Thank you to Readers First and Corvus for the opportunity to read this book,
