I was really looking forward to this, but was really disappointed. The Daily Express said it was a real page turner....it was....for the wrong reasons! I've rarely been beaten by a book but this was so slow to get going I found myself flicking through in the hope that I would find the story I was looking forward to reading. Sadly the characters never really developed and the plot never got going. I had hoped Jo would prove a string heroine but she was sadly bland and inspired zero empathy and I struggled to persevere.
This had a lot going for it: an attractive cover, a Christmas theme - and who doesn't love a cosy Christmas tale?!- the potential for a nice warming seasonal wartime tale...
