With Christmas 2019 approaching this book would make an easy read for someone.
It is wartime and in 1940 that meant ration books, shortages, and of course the Blitz, the seemingly never ceasing bombardment of bombs over the east end of London.
the Brogan family with men at war are having to pitch in and lend a hand where needed. One of the sisters Jo is seeing a guy named Tommy but he is a ne'er do well and her family don't like him, so it seems does a lot of people in the neighbourhood.
Throughout the air raids the lives of the girls is constantly interrupted, nothing is the same as before.
Of course, Christmas is looming but they all wonder if during wartime and the family split apart can it be the same as before. With rationing they wonder can they pull off a family Christmas.
Without spoiling the story I found that the way the characters pulled together it was truly a heartening novel.
