Jean Fullerton does not disappoint . The characters are true and real ,they make mistakes and they feel human. Jean has a nursing background and splatterings of her working knowledge are spaced throughout the book which gives a realism to the storyline. The story is mainly based in the east end of London during the Blitz with two main characters Jo Brogan and Tommy Sweete . Tommy is classed as a bad un with a drunk for a mother and a criminal of a brother .He has already been to borstal and had an assortment of lady friends . The book shows how Tommy has to prove himself both to Jo and her family . The storyline also shows the hardship and loss throughout this time period and makes you appreciate what we have.
