This is the sequel to 'A Pocketful of Dreams' continuing the wartime saga about the Brogan family. It is not necessary to have read the first book as the events are recapped in this book.
As with the first book, I didn't really enjoy the story or relate to the characters until several chapters into the book. I felt the writing was rather clichéd and the overuse and inappropriate use of the present participle to start every sentence became somewhat tedious (see page 46/7).
However, I was won over by the wonderful and authentic family relationships and misunderstandings and the detail of life in London during the Blitz.
The book isn't really about Christmas and the cynic in me would suggest that the title is meant to generate more purchases of the book as gifts at that time of the year. Similarly, the cover shows 4 well-dressed and happy young women which do not appear in any part of the story.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and look forward to the further adventures of the Brogan family.
