An easy-read that I read within a few hours. The story was interesting, with enough historical information to make it seem accurate.

The characters were generally likeable and easy to believe in. Jo comes across as quite independent which I would imagine wasn't too common in those times. Tommy is also the stereotypical seen as a badboy but is actually a good guy so you warm to him quite easily. Their relationship is definitely one of the highlights of the book.

The setting was good - as it added the element of suspense and need to act rather than think about things. The descriptions seemed accurate and there were some interesting scenes where people were doing their best to carry on with normal life while the world was collapsing around them.

The front cover of the book didn't quite connect that well with the story. It was mainly about the two characters - Tommy and Jo. Jo's family only had smaller parts where they flitted in and out of the story. The front-cover would suggest the story was more about a gorup of friends or family members than a young couple.
