This book is a very well written novel based during the second world war and, just as the title 'A Ration Book Christmas' claims, is all about Christmas during a time of rationing. This book is especially relevant today as Christmas becomes increasingly commercialised. This book takes the reader back to the time of their grandparents who experienced life, and Christmas in particular, during the second world war. Although money was scarce goods were also scarce so even for those who could afford to buy them many items many regarded as essential for a traditional Christmas weren't available. Jean Fullerton brilliantly describes the hardships and also the joy in the simpler pleasures of family and home in this extremely well written book.
