A war time story of hope
Jean Fullerton captures the historical period well, as she pays attention to include details of the period and they impact onto Cathy’s life.
Cathy is living the hardship of wartime Britain - she is supporting the war effort, bringing up a son and having to share her home (and food) with an awful mother-in-law. She holds hope in her heart as she is studying so that she can get a job (mother-in-law hates this) and we warm to her and wish her news on her husband that will allow her a better life.
