I love Jean Fullerton as an author as with each book she writes you know you are going to have a wonderful work of fiction, yet her style of writing is always fresh and exciting. Usually, with authors they stick with the one style, not for the likes of Jean Fullerton as she has once again written a book which grabs your attention from the first page, filling it with many characters who are brought alive through wonderful writing. Through her writing, she brings us readers to the Eastend of London at the beginning of the Second World War. The city is ripe with Nazi sympathisers as well as those British men and women who blame those of the Jewish faith for everything that is wrong with the world!!
I loved this book as the characters were brought to life and with Mattie and her sister Cathie as they are connected to the group of Nazi sympathisers which will take Mattie especially on a new route of life. History was brought alive through a great work of historical fiction, the tension which abounded each resident while simply trying to survive the horrors of the Second World War.
