The front cover is very fitting and definitely creates an old fashioned air! Right from the start this books dives right in to Second World War England and the WVS. The main character filled me with intrigue and her secrets and complexity starting right from page1. I feel the writer cleverly creates a beginning hatred for the character of Violet as she is immediately ungrateful and rude to the struggling main character, Cathy.
