My only experiences reading historical fiction are from school English lessons during which we read “the boy in the striped pajamas” or “between shades of grey”. These books honestly emotionally exhausted me so much that I haven’t read anything similar since. This book does seem like it takes a different approach, but I’m still suspicious.
