Although I don't prefer books set around the war period, the plot intrigued me. It is definitely not my usual read, however it would be a chance for me to expand my horizons. The voice of a woman narrating through a book set in war time sparks my interest. I enjoyed the main character, since she gives a new perception to woman during warfare, considering the common stereotype held of woman being nothing but submissive house wife's that Cathy wishes to defy upon. The plot leaves me curious as to how the forbidden romance will evolve. The female lead- Cathy, being a single mother during those hard times tells a story of its own. The plot is refreshing and I admire it's originality, as most woman during war-time find their husband leaving for war a depressing and tearful time, which adds a modern twist to a war-time story. The titles gives a clear idea of what type of book this is. The cover compliments the historical theme.
