I really liked this extract so far. It really shows life for women during World War II and the effort, sacrifices, and contributions they made to the war effort. It creates a great level of sympathy and admiration for the main character, Cathy, and her co workers. Cathy's mother in law is one of those characters that are so easy to hate from the start and it works really well in this story because you want to read on and see if Cathy escapes her mother in law and husband. As the book then switches to Archie and the two are yet to meet, it makes you want to read on. The switching chapters definitely keep me engaged.
While there is nothing bad about the cover, it just seems rather plain and boring. It makes the book seem for older women so while I enjoyed this extract and now want to read more, I wouldn't have picked this book up at a store or library if I didn't know about it from Readers First.
