The cover of this book and title really did not appeal to me. These are the kinds of book that I actively avoid as they remind me of something that my grandmother's would read, they make me feel old!

The blurb was as expected from the picture on the cover, no surprises and neither excited nor awful.

The book begins in a predictable way, introducing the main character and allowing the reader a background into her life and relationships. It is well written and you can immediately empathise with her situation, particularly her living circumstances with what sounds like the worse nightmare of mother in laws. The first pages are written in an interesting manner combining helping the reader get to know the main characters with setting the scene of Britain during the blitz. The descriptions are good and really help to form a sense of the country at the time.
Despite the fact that this book is well written and the early character development is good this is not the type of book that I would be interested in reading. The early pages indicate that this will be a well written historical story, there does not appear to be any obvious twist or turns and i suspect what will follow is a nicely written but predictable romance. Therefore whilst this type of story will be perfect for some, it is not for me.
