Ever since discovering Jean Fullerton's 'Ration Book' series of books when I was lucky enough to win A Ration Book Christmas from Readers First, I have been hooked on the life of the Brogan Family, trying to live normal, average lives as working class Londoners during the extraordinary events of World War II. What is particularly interesting about this books is that, although the whole family are present throughout the series, different members of the Brogan family come to the fore in the various novels. This time it is the turn of Cathy Brogan who has had to put up with a lot thanks to her elusive husband Stan, who has been in prison before being lost in action and must live with Stan's domineering and cruel mother. Just when Cathy meets a new man, Archie, and it appears she will be happy again but, as with the life of the Brogans, this is not quite the case. I'm looking forward to the sixth book in the series, seventh if we count the ebook novella A Ration Book Childhood, with their beautiful cover art and spines that look good on the shelf and their stories of a realistic World War II family inside.
