Cathy works in the second hand clothing section in the Women's Voluntary Service centre. After starting a couple of years previously as a volunteer with her Mum ida who ran this section, End of summer 1942 Cathy took over the running from her Mum. Cathy is married to Stanley, it's an abusive relationship with no love for poor Cathy from either her husband or her Mother-in-law Violet, who doesn't treat her well. Whilst working at the WVS centre Cathy also takes care of their son Peter. Luckily she has a great bond with her own family.
News arrives to advise her husband Stanley is missing in action, his mother Violet doesn't believe this is the case and gradually causes more trouble for Cathy. Whilst Cathy is counting the days until she knows he's not likely to be coming back. More challenges thrown at Cathy and the Brogan family.
Told from more than one perspective, but mainly Cathys, around her life and Sergeant Archie McIntosh.
Another great read based around the Brogan family, it's not my genre of choice but I do look forward to reading this series. If you've not read any of the previous books, it won't effect your reading of this book, but definitely worth reading. Looking forward to the next...
