A Ration book for my daughter is set during WW2 so you would have thought this book would be dark and depressing however the way Jean Fullerton has written this is light hearted, sad, funny and it takes you slowly through Cathy and Peter’s life. Stanley has been sent away leaving his mother living with Cathy. The Mother in Law, Vi is nasty and sees no wrong in her son even though he used to abuse Cathy. Cathy is hoping Stanley does not return from the war and once he is declared missing in action she starts to count down the days until he is declared dead.
Cathy’s family The Brogans are looked down on by Vi and her group of friends, although when Queenie, Cathy’s gran speaks everyone listens as they say she has witchcraft, will the spell she casts on Vi come true?
Cathy then meets someone and no spoilers but hopes that they can start a new life together, get married and have a family.
Fantastic book and I can’t wait to read more by this author
