I really love this series of books, it’s like catching up with old friends each time.
The man people in it are the Brogans, all really hard working people but get looked down on and the father called a tinker but they don’t care, just get on with life.
Each book has had a story that centres around one of the family more and this time it was Cathy.
Her mother in law,Vi, lives with her and seems the mother in law from hell, tells her friends stories about how Cathy treats her so badly even though she doesn’t.
Cathy’s husband is away in the war but a telegram comes through to say that he is missing, where as Vi is upset, Cathy feels a sense of relief as Stanley is so cruel to her both verbally and physically, if he hasn’t been reported as found by Easter then he would be declared dead and although Cathy says she shouldn’t, she is counting down the days.
To make money stretch she takes in a lodger, could he be the reason she has started to smile?
