Loved this emotional and engaging story
I love this book! I wouldn’t usually pick a wartime fiction to read, but I’m so glad I got this one, it’s such a moving and engaging read. Whilst it’s part of a series it can also be read as a stand-alone.
I loved following Cathy and Archie in their day to day lives and felt everything along with them. I was wishing the worst for Stan and hated her vile deceitful mother-in-law, but understood the helplessness of Cathy’s situation given the era. Additionally, I could empathise with Archie and his lads doing all the hard work while their useless commanding officer Monkman took the glory.
There’s really nothing negative I can say about this except I’m not such a lover of the cover. But in terms of the story, I felt every emotion, could picture every scene, and was totally immersed in the plot. I will be going back and reading the previous books in the series and hope there’s more to come – 100% recommend.
