This is the 5th book in Jean Fullerton’s Ration Book series which tells the tale of the Brogan family during the Second World War.
This instalment focuses on Cathy. Cathy is married to a violent husband and stuck at home with his awful mother whilst he is away at war. When Stanley goes missing in action Cathy hopes that this might give her an opportunity to find happiness again.
I found the first half of the book a little slow at first, however I was soon hooked on the blossoming story between Cathy and Archie.
This book is brilliantly researched and really gives you a clear idea of how tough it must have been to live through the Blitz. The author also managed to create some of the most hate-able villains I have read in a while. In particular the mother in law had me screaming at the pages.
Overall I enjoyed this book and found it a perfect instalment in the lovey series.
