Like many of Jean Fullerton's readers I've thoroughly enjoyed the Ration Book Series about the Brogan family during the second world war. Sadly, this is the last book in the series so, presumably, take the Brogans to the end of the war. In this instalment Queenie, the matriarch of the family, is the central character at the start of A Ration Book Victory. Queenie moved in with her son and his wife and their family when she was widowed some years previously. Although she and her family have lived in the East End for a long time Queenie originally came from Ireland as did Father Patrick Mahon, the parish priest. The two were childhood friends and their friendship continues throughout their lives. They're both getting older and Father Mahon is experiencing health problems. As the book starts Queenie sees Father Mahon being taken to hospital in an ambulance and is worried for her old friend. Although I'm sorry that this will be the last of the Ration Book series I'm really looking forward to reading A Ration Book Victory and learning how they all fare as the war comes to an end.
