Well-researched historical fiction
I love how cheerful the cover of this book appears, with its victory flags and friendship. It definitely reflects the nostalgic, hopeful tone of the writing and makes the book call out to fans of historical fiction.
I enjoyed learning about Philomena's childhood in the first look, from her family's background and low standing in society to the clothes they wore and the way they tried their best to fit in. Clearly, the author has a lot of knowledge of wartime, but the writing style still comes across as warm and interesting, not purely factual. I know fans of her previous books (and historical fiction in general) will be eager to pick this up.
