I really enjoyed meeting Philomena and her family in a sneaked peak into this book.

The author paints pictures of her characters with little details that bring them into clear focus and context. The reader is drawn into the worlds of Philomena as a child in Ireland, nicknamed Queenie by the time we join her in late WWII East End London, as matriarch of her multi-generation clan.

Effortlessly, the social environment of the time is woven into the narrative, as are the nature of relationships with and around Queenie. Foreboding of tragedy, announced by extrasensory whisperings in Queenie's head, preface the unfolding of the romance begun in childhood. It is obvious that all was not smooth in the passing years and, at the end of the first chapter, we readers are left with a keen appetite to learn more.

From what I have read so far, I strongly recommend this book and look forward to reading more.
