The story has two timelines. First is set in Ireland, late 1870s while the second is set during World War 2 and in East London. It is part of The Ration Book series by the author, Jean Fullerton. The main character in this story is Queenie Brogan.
Flashbacks of late 1870s, Queenie Brogan then Philomena Dooley,an Irish traveller who was supposed to marry her childhood sweetheart, Patrick Mahon.
However, due to a tragedy and Patrick Sister, Nora's meddling. She didn't marry Patrick. Instead married Fergus and resided in East London.
Surprisingly, Patrick Mahon is her parish priest in London.
I wasn't disappointed reading this book as again Jean Fullerton has done extremely well into developing the setting as well as each and every character so that you understand them more. Especially giving you the background of Queenie Brogan. I found the book another pleasure to read and the characters were very relatable. I would be looking forward to reading more books by her.
