You follow characters through the hardest of times in their life and you root for every happpiness they get. Love every character, Queenie is precious and you fall in love with the tale and her backstory throughout.
This author has a way with words in the way that they are able to write with realism yet conjure so much emotion for the reader. I am not one to often get upset at books but there were moments of pure emotion when reading this book, a sign of truly beautiful writing. We read about this time period in so many history books but we don't stop to think how it would have felt to live everyday life in those times. You can easily get lost back to war times and feel often like you are there and these are your family and friends.
