I love this series of books by Jean Fullerton right from the cover illustrations, the first lines of text to the finish. This novel not only portrays life at the times but also explains some of the previous history of the family and their love for each other. World War Two and the social climate is such an evocative era and the author does a fabulous job of drawing you into the lives of the Brogan family as though you yourself were a member. This novel focuses on all the daughters looking forward to their husbands coming home from the war. The writing style is easy going and I found that I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put it down. I only wish I had as now I have finished the book it has left me wanting to read more. The characters were so colourful and the story very believable. I hope that maybe there might be a further story yet to come, maybe in the 1950s perhaps.
