I’m new to the Ration Book Series so I didn’t know what to expect. I always find historical fiction a choice that I make, love, leave for a bit and then wonder why I ever did that because the cycle begins again with the next book I pick.

Overall, I found the Brogan family quite charming and I can see why the series is ever increasing. Queenie Brogan is one of those phenomenal characters who steals the show really.

I like the plot of the story and found it an easy, entertaining read. It’s perfect for those people who are interested in WW2 or historical fiction as well as those who like reading about family dynamics and set ups.

Jean Fullerton’s own background also means that the work is hugely accurate and believable which also adds to the novel too. Readers want to feel like they’re learning or gaining something from the experience.

Overall, a good read.
