Throughout this series I've followed the Brogan family through their childhood, Christmas, a wedding, their own child and feel I know them as a family and as friends thanks to Jean Fullerton's captivating writing. Obviously it is good that war has ended, and this is the perfect place to end the series, but I also feel sad that we will be leaving the Brogans indefinitely in the past now. I like the fact that the covers all match, therefore the complete set on the shelf is aethetically pleasing, but aside from that Fullerton's writing is strong and really captures real historicall events of the past with conviction.

I enjoyed learning about one family's struggles throughout World War II, their fears and uncertainties of the period, but also their conviction to make do and never give up. Events like this can show cracks in a family unit, as well as bring them together, and the author has shown up all of this through different characters being given the limelight. I even went back and repurchased the first book in the series, Pocketful of Miracles, when it was rereleased as A Ration Book Dream in order to complete my 'Ration Book' collection. I look forward to reading more from this very capable author of modern historical fiction.
