Take one extended family and a matriarch who keeps the family together and you know there is going to be many a story to tell! But in this case it's the matriarch whose story and secret is going to have a knock on effect on all their lives!! Well then, you know you're in for a treat!!
Although I had already made my mind up as to what 'the secret' was. I still felt compelled to read to the end, if nothing else to see if my hunch was right, but most of all I wanted, No, I had to find out if Queenie did tell Patrick in the end!
I even began to question myself after several twists and turns!!
My mother had told me of her experiences during the war and also with rationing. She also said how families and neighbours supported each other, along with the joy of when the war ended.
I really felt this book captured all the emotions, joys and sorrows throughout.
