The eighth in the Ration Book series set in wartime London- a family saga following the ups and downs of a family of the Brogan family. This book tells the story of Queenie Brogan who came from a family of Irish Travellers and lost the love of her life when his sister intervened in their blossoming romance.
In a cruel twist of fate when Queenie marries and moves to the East End she discovers her lost love is her parish priest and the love that she thought was gone forever flares up once again. The book has very accessible writing, I loved the descriptions of the character's clothes and the movement between the 1800s and the 1940s that helps to explain how people met and the back story of Queenie and her family. The relationships between the family members in this saga make for an engaging read.
Definitely one for fans of Katie Flynn, Emma Hornby or Anna Jacobs.
