This is the first book about the Brogan family I have read and wish I'd read some of the other books first but having said that I did enjoy it.

It follows a large Irish family living in London towards the end of WW2 but also jumps back to earlier years in Ireland to build the base for the storyline but these are clearly marked so found it flowed well.

Lovely mix of both young and old family members looking after each other and their families expanding and changing due to the war but the main characters are Mena and her childhood friend and sweetheart Patrick, the local priest. It follows them and all their ups and downs over the years and the challenges thrown at them and their extended families

I like the tales about how life was with rationing and living through the air raids and communities celebrating VE day and welcoming the troops back home
