This was actually my first Jean Fullerton book, and I’m aware that it’s part of a series but I decided to read this one first as I had it, and now I definitely need to go back and read the rest! I do recommend reading the other books first though just so you can get a real feel for the characters and their lives before reading this last book.
That said, I really enjoyed this book – it was a heart warming, joyful book and is very well written. World War Two is ending and we follow the Brogan family through love, loyalty, family fun and secrets. I do enjoy reading about WW2 and the positivity and enthusiasm people still had for life and the Brogan family definitely delivered enthusiasm.
The story jumps between different years, 1877 where we learn about Queenie growing up and 1945 – the end of the war. You get a very colourful picture of what life could have been like back then and reading about the day to day life of a pretty normal family is very relatable.
