I mostly enjoyed reading this book. I have read some of the ration book novels previously and have enjoyed them. This one is a natural progression of the series, set in the final few months of World War Two. It’s a lovely tale that’s desperately heartbreaking and wonderfully uplifting at the same time.
The east end matriarch of this story, Queenie Brogan, discovers that her local priest is in fact her childhood sweetheart. Tragically they were separated at a young age and have since both made a new life for themselves only for them to collide again half a century later. Queenie is harbouring a secret and Patrick is dying will the secret be shared and what will be the consequences of it is or will she keep it buried.
I really enjoyed the story but found the pace dropped a little around the middle of the book. Great for fans of historical fiction or the series
